How To Fill Up A Notebook In 30 Days

(1) The Idea: Protocols for keeping a thought journal
Around this time of the year, I would usually buy a new notebook and try to restart a journaling habit for the nth time, but all the attempts ended up in the same place:
Abandoning the notebook halfway through the year.
As a result, I now have a dozen unfinished notebooks that come in all shapes and sizes, reminding me again and again that a journaling habit is impossible to keep.
But this time around, as we’re about to head into 2026, I’ve already filled up an entire notebook I bought in November, and as I’m writing this, I’m halfway through filling up another notebook I purchased two weeks ago. What changed? Well, in this letter, I’d love to share a simple journaling protocol that has allowed me to build a sustainable daily writing habit.
