Last week, I started a thread and asked for three books that impacted you as a person and writer. Here are some of the amazing replies:
A fellow Australian poet Caitlin Ellis from wrote:
1. Skeleton Creek by Patrick Carmen - a YA book I read in year 6, but it was my intro to horror and paranormal thrillers, and (most importantly) kickstarted my lifelong obsession with Edgar Allan Poe
2. Sweetdark by Savannah Brown - Sav inspired me to bite the bullet and publish my own poetry. I return to her collection, Sweetdark, often
3. The Secret History by Donna Tartt - a cult classic with new popularity, but at the time I read it, it absolutely blew my mind and opened up a whole new realm of possibility for my creative endeavours
While you’re at it, you should check out her newsletter: . I absolutely adored her latest issue: Grief is a Strange Thing. How she channelled vulnerability through her writing is quite refreshing, and I can’t wait to read her next letter.
